πŸ•πŸ’šπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Retired K9 Loena was humanely euthanized due to age and medical reasons this afternoon. Loena, was a 13-year-old female Belgian Malinois who was partnered with her handler, BPA Hector Garza, originally assigned to the Hebbronville Station and later transferred to the Laredo South Station. Loena entered on duty in October 2010 and was assigned to BPA Garza in November 2010. BPA Garza and Loena were certified as Track and Trailing team for the Laredo Sector.
 
πŸ•πŸ’šπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Retired K9 Cristie was stationed in Hebbronville Station from 2011 to 2016 and transferred with her handler to Laredo North Station in 2016 until her retirement in 2018. Cristie was an 11-year-old female Belgian Malinois who was partnered with her handler, BPA Julio Vasquez, originally assigned to the Hebbronville Station and later transferred to Laredo North Station. Cristie entered on duty in September 2011 and retired in July 2018.

πŸ•πŸ’šπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Retired K9 Onyx, was stationed at the Laredo West Station, and was humanely euthanized due to medical complications. Onyx was a 6-year-old male Dutch Shepherd who was originally assigned to handler BPA George Blakey from the Cotulla Station in 2016. After BPA Blakey left the Laredo Sector, Onyx was assigned to BPA Ricardo Lopez in 2020. 

During their tenure at Laredo Sector, Loena, Cristie, and Onyx assisted Agents in train checks, bus checks, brush work and checkpoint operations.

Yesterday we attended the celebration of life service for Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Douglas L. Hatcher πŸ’šπŸ–€πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ that took place in Uvalde, Texas. 

We were able to express our condolences to the Hatcher family and to Del Rio Sector Deputy Chief Robert Danley. 

We ask you to continue keeping in your prayers the Hatcher family as they will be traveling back to Arkansas.

Chief Scott entered on duty with the U.S. Border Patrol on May 11, 1992. His first assignment was at the Imperial Beach Station in San Diego, California. Chief Scott served as Chief Patrol Agent of San Diego Sector, El Centro Sector; Deputy Chief Patrol Agent at San Diego Sector; Patrol Agent in Charge at the Brown Field Station in San Diego Sector. He also served with CBP as Assistant Chief within CBP’s Office of Anti-Terrorism in Washington, D.C., and as the Director/Division Chief for the Incident Management and Operations Coordination Division at CBP Headquarters. 
 
On behalf of BPA Family Network and with the huge respect you deserve, we wish you the very best on your future endeavors. July 16, 2021 marked the end of an outstanding 23 year career in the U.S. Border Patrol for Patrol Agent in Charge Vanessa McKeon  #HonorFirst πŸ’šπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ  #USBPAcademyClass 373. 

PAIC McKeon began her Border Patrol career in April 1998 as member of USBP Academy Class 373 and was assigned to  #BrownsvilleStation 

While in Brownsville Station she joined the Horse Patrol for 2 years, became a USBP Explorer Advisor, and got promoted Supervisor for Brownsville Station back in 2005. PAIC McKeon got promoted as SOS for Uvalde Station in 2009, (A) PAIC for Del Rio Station in 2012, DPAIC for Carrizo Springs in 2013, and Patrol Agent in Charge for Carrizo Springs USBP Station in 2018. 

PAIC McKeon comes from a Law Enforcement family, her dad was a Missouri Highway Patrol  #StateTrooper πŸš”πŸ’™πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Chief Skero began his Border Patrol career in February 1995 as member of  #USBPAcademy Class  #279 and was assigned to  #FortBrownStation in RGV Sector. Serving throughout Texas and New Mexico, his initiative and work ethic allowed him to climb the ranks. His demonstrated leadership abilities earned Chief Skero his first command position in Laredo, Texas. While at the Laredo Sector, he built the  #LaredoWestStation and checkpoint, where he served as its very first Patrol Agent in Charge from 2007 to 2009. He was then promoted to Assistant Chief Patrol Agent in Laredo. In 2010, he promoted to Associate Chief at Headquarters in Washington, DC and served as Acting Deputy Chief of Operations until 2012 when he was appointed Chief Patrol Agent of the Grand Forks (North Dakota) Sector. Beginning in 2015, Chief Skero served as the Director of Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Law Enforcement Safety and Compliance Directorate. Prior to his selection as CPA of Del Rio Sector, Chief Skero served as the Deputy Chief Patrol Agent in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

Chief Skero is the recipient of many awards and commendations including the Border Patrol’s highest award for valor, the Newton-Azrak Award. Prior to joining the Border Patrol, Chief Skero served Texas as a Deputy Sheriff in Edwards County. Thank you for your service.

Chief Padilla oversees operations of all Border Patrol sectors and is responsible for understanding/managing the needs and challenges of each sector.

He entered on duty with the U.S. Border Patrol on Aug. 11, 1986, and his first assignment was at the Sierra Blanca Station in Texas. In 1990, he became a member of the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC), eventually providing instruction on tactical procedures to host country police forces in Bolivia, El Salvador, and Guatemala.

Chief Padilla has held a number of key leadership positions, including Commander of the Joint Task Force – West, South Texas Corridor, Director of Joint Task Force – West of DHS SBACP; Chief Patrol Agent and Deputy Chief Patrol Agent of the Tucson Sector, New Orleans Sector, and RGV Sector; and Associate Chief at Border Patrol Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He previously served as Patrol Agent in Charge, Ysleta Station, El Paso Sector; Assistant Patrol Agent in Charge, Deming Station, El Paso Sector; Patrol Agent in Charge, Presidio Station, Marfa Sector; Field Operations Supervisor, BORTAC, El Paso, Texas; and Border Patrol Agent Canine Handler. 

Director Padilla is a graduate of the CBP SES Candidate Development Program. Prior to joining the Border Patrol, he served in the United States Army for two years.
