Fagradalsfjall Volcano Collection 🌋🇮🇸✨
•
The Fagradalsfjall volcanic eruption has been active for 6 months now, officially making it Iceland’s longest-lasting eruption of the 21st century. Here is a small collection from different moments, it’s been incredible to watch it grow. To experience and document so many different stages of a single volcanic eruption has been amazing, the area has changed so much since the beginning. I miss the first few days of the eruption when you could walk all the way up to the crater and experience it up-close, but now the surrounding lava only allows you to enjoy it from a long distance.
•
The crater is now over 130 meters high and rises 334 meters above sea level. If the Fagradalsfjall volcano continues to erupt for the next few months/years, it will become the highest mountain on Reykjanes Peninsula. I’ve been watching it grow and now I can see the crater rim from my window 🌋

Lonely Peak 🚶🏻‍♂️⛰✨
•
Before you read this, watch my current story which is from this hike, if you haven’t watched it already (UPDATE, the story is now in the “Lómagnúpur” story highlight) — I’ve driven past Lómagnúpur on the South Coast over 100 times, and climbing it had been on my bucket list ever since I saw it for the first time over 15 years ago. I finally made it happen this summer, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. I did the hike on June 20th so it didn’t get dark at all, started at 10:30 PM and got back to the car at 8:45 AM. Midnight sun hiking makes the Icelandic summers so epic. I just posted stories from the hike so make sure to check them out as well! 🎥
•
To celebrate finally climbing Lómagnúpur, I wanted to share a collection of some of my favorite shots I’ve taken through the years. This particular night went straight to the first place, what a surreal feeling to finally stand on top of this beautiful mountain 🤯

Lonely Houses Collection 🏠🇮🇸✨
•
Five lonely houses isolated from civilization, each on it’s own private island. You’ve been gifted one house and you can pick from one of those five. Which island would you pick, and why? Comment your pick 💬👇🏼
•
The last photo is a panorama of the whole area (photos 5-10) where you can see the location of each island. All of the five islands are in the Vestmannaeyjar Archipelago, Heimaey is the main island and the only one that has permanent population 🏘

Polar Stratospheric Clouds ☁️🌈✨
•
Winter is coming soon in Iceland which means we’ll have a chance to experience polar stratospheric clouds again. Here is a set from the beginning of the year when I experienced them for seven hours straight. They lasted for the whole day which is extremely rare. Really hoping to capture them again this winter! Did you know those existed? 🌈
•
Polar stratospheric clouds (also called nacreous clouds) are rare and only form in the Arctic polar region. They are best observed during civil twilight, when the Sun is between 1 and 6 degrees below the horizon, as well as in winter and in more northerly latitudes. They form at temperatures of around -70°C to -90°C and at very high altitudes, between 15 and 30 km (about 50,000 to 98,000 feet). That’s far above even the highest clouds in the troposphere. For the full explanation, check my “🌈 Clouds” story highlight on my profile.

Puffin Collection 🐦🇮🇸✨
•
Puffins, the funniest and most awkward birds I’ve photographed. Here is a small collection I shot in Vestmannaeyjar few weeks ago. Puffins are called “clowns of the sea” because of their brightly colored beaks and clown-like faces, and also because of their awkwardness on land. But they are also aggressive, when aggravated, a puffin will puff itself up, spread its wings and open its beak and stamp its feet to make itself look more fearsome. In an actual fight, the two opponents will lock beaks and then beat at each other with their wings and feet. A fight may gather a crowd of 10 or more puffin spectators. Who doesn’t want to watch puffin fight club? 😂
•
Fun fact, Westman Islands boasts the largest puffin colony in the world, or over 2 million puffins. In addition, around 60% of the world’s puffin population breeds around the Icelandic shore and on the islands. Have you ever seen a puffin? 🐦
•
Ever wondered how big puffins are? Check the last shot to see them compared to a seagull 😂

Roaring Crater 🌋💥✨
•
Woke up to 400k followers this morning, extremely thankful for all the people that support and enjoy my work. Here is a recent clip from the Geldingadalir volcano I captured at 2 AM for @VisitReykjanes. I’ve lost the count on how many times I’ve visited the eruption, but it’s magical every single time. The crater has been erupting in alternating phases the past weeks and shows no signs of slowing down 💥
•
Are you planning to visit the volcano? Let me know 👇🏼🌋

Emerald Flow 💧🧪✨
•
One of the most beautiful beaches I’ve seen in Iceland. I was there on a sunny day and the colors were so vibrant that they even looked fake in person. 10 km long yellow and orange sand beach with a massive green river running through in the middle. What a crazy place! Check the last slide for a unedited iPhone video 🎥🇮🇸

Can you spot me in the second photo? 😂🚶🏻‍♂️

A collection from the famous Elephant Rock in Iceland. This natural basalt formation looks like a big elephant head with its trunk submerged underwater. It’s actually located next to a golf course, swipe through the set to see a panorama from the area 📸

Twilight Haze ☁️🌄✨
•
I’ve always dreamed of getting those conditions in Iceland, and it finally happened. Cloud inversions are rare in Iceland and I feel incredibly lucky to have experienced it this way. A perfect view over the Eastfjords and the Atlantic Ocean covered in fog. Ten minutes after sunset the clouds exploded in this insane deep red/orange color. Definitely one of the most surreal moments of my life. I stayed in this area for almost 12 hours and got so much epic content, this sky was only a bonus. Stay tuned for more photos 🔥

Coastal Island 🏝⛰✨
•
Series from my favorite island in East Iceland. Skrúður is actually very well known among locals as one of Iceland’s worst maritime disasters ever recorded happened there. Syneta, a British tanker, crashed into the 531-foot Skrúður island right before midnight on Christmas day 1986. All 12 crewmen drowned. One of Iceland’s most popular singers, Bubbi Mortens, wrote a song about the accident, remembering the lost crewmen. It’s called “Syneta”, I highly recommend you to give it a listen, even though it’s in Icelandic 🎵
.
Curious to see who actually reads captions, include a “✅” in your comment if you see this 😎
