Old Home Day is TOMORROW! Historic Richmond Town may be holding down #blacksmithing in Staten Island, but the @NazzForge has blacksmithing covered in Brooklyn. A teaching forge in @industrycity, Nazz Forge offers courses on forging blades and traditional ironwork.
˙
Nazz Forge will be among the special exhibitors at this year's Old Home Day. Working alongside our own blacksmith, masters and apprentices from Brooklyn will be displaying pieces made in their own shop. Learn about the different practices of blacksmithing from the 19th century to the present at this year's Old Home Day TOMORROW, October 9 from 11am-5pm.

Historic Richmond Town's artist-in-residence, Chris O'Brien, will be at the Barger Privy for tours and explorations of his 'Strange Visions' installation on Saturday, October 9 from 11am-5pm.
˙
O'Brien's work features original works and found objects arranged in a historic outhouse to create the headquarters of a long defunct (and invented) group, The Richmond County Field Recording Society. See a painting of Polly Bodine, and renderings of extra terrestrial visitations to Staten Island, as this special installation blurs the lines between history and folklore.
˙
Tour the Barger Privy and experience the full breadth of Historic Richmond Town's historic trades and Staten Island's cultural tradition's at this year's Old Home Day, Saturday October 9 from 11am-5pm.

In the 19th century, the village of Richmond was buzzing with commerce and government business. The toll of the courthouse bell signaled that court was in session; throughout the village and surrounding settlements men and women made goods with their hands and with simple machines and tools to trade and for use in their own homes.
˙
Historic Richmond Town's Old Home Day event is an annual celebration of these traditions and trades from early America. Skilled trades people and artisans demonstrate blacksmithing, carpentry and tinsmithing, and additional displays include hearth cooking, broom making, & basket making.
˙
The day's events also include demonstrations of hand spinning, chair-caning, apple cider pressing, job printing on a 19th century press, & live music. Cultural traditions from around the world, such as the time-honored art of Filipino Baybayin calligraphy, will also be displayed.
˙
Join us on October 9 from 11am-5pm.

At this year's Old Home Day, Historic Richmond Town is delighted to welcome artist and educator Mark Libatique who will demonstrate writing Baybayin script.
˙
Baybayin is one of many writing systems that were in use on the Precolonial Philippine Islands across many ethnic groups. It was replaced by the Latin alphabet after centuries of Spanish rule, and now very few people are left who can read or write in it. Today, young artists around the world who trace their heritage to the Philippines are resurrecting Baybayin as an art form through calligraphy, graphic design, fashion, and more.
˙
Learn about this historical syllabic script and try it yourself at Old Home Day on Saturday, October 9 from 11am-5pm.

The first day of Decker Farm is a huge hit! If you don’t have your tickets it’s time to head to the link in our BIO-there’s plenty of pumpkin to be had this season on the farm!

This is a fully outdoor event so you do NOT need to be vaccinated to attend.
