Today is the @littlefreelibrary & @celadonbooks release day for “Brothers on Three” by Abe Streep. Today participating little free libraries will have advanced reader copies of this book. The Book House is lucky enough to have a copy!
“March 11, 2017, was a night to remember: in front of the hopeful eyes of thousands of friends, family members, and fans, the Arlee Warriors would finally bring the high school basketball state championship title home to the Flathead Indian Reservation. The game would become the stuff of legend, with the boys revered as local heroes. The team’s place in Montana history was now cemented, but for starters Will Mesteth, Jr. and Phillip Malatare, life would keep moving on―senior year was only just beginning.

In Brothers on Three, we follow Phil and Will, along with their teammates, coaches, and families, as they balance the pressures of adolescence, shoulder the dreams of their community, and chart their own individual courses for the future.

Brothers on Three is not simply a story about high school basketball, about state championships and a winning team. It is a book about community, and it is about boys on the cusp of adulthood, finding their way through the intersecting worlds they inhabit and forging their own paths to personhood.”
If you’re following The Book House and are the lucky one to pick up this book today, please tag my account!

Thank you to author and registered nurse @amandaskenandore for her signed copy of The Second Life of Mirielle West. This book was published July 27, 2021.

“Based on the true story of America’s only leper colony, The Second Life of Mirielle West brings vividly to life the Louisiana institution known as Carville, where thousands of people were stripped of their civil rights, branded as lepers, and forcibly quarantined throughout the entire 20th century.

For Mirielle West, a 1920’s socialite married to a silent film star, the isolation and powerlessness of the Louisiana Leper Home is an unimaginable fall from her intoxicatingly chic life of bootlegged champagne and the star-studded parties of Hollywood’s Golden Age. When a doctor notices a pale patch of skin on her hand, she’s immediately branded a leper and carted hundreds of miles from home to Carville, taking a new name to spare her family and famous husband the shame that accompanies the disease.

At first she hopes her exile will be brief, but those sent to Carville are more prisoners than patients and their disease has no cure. Instead she must find community and purpose within its walls, struggling to redefine her self-worth while fighting an unchosen fate.”

I know with this humid weather that LAST thing you want to think about is cooking dinner but these air fryer and crockpot cookbooks will keep you away from the oven. They’re in The Book House now, along with a great selection of books for all ages. #cooking #cookbooks #whatsfordinner #books #bookstagram #littlefreelibrary #littlefreelibraries #thebookhouse #read #summerreading

Wonderful surprise donation left at The Book House today! Thank you so much.

My kids and I have an annual end of summer cleaning to prepare for school. We go through their clothes, books, toys, and donate whatever we can. I have a lot of great books from their personal collection to put in The Book House. I will be adding some of them this week. I also have a huge bookshelf FULL (borderline bursting) of books for all ages in my garage. So if there is ever a book that you’re looking for please let me know and I can check for you. #littlefreelibrary #lfl #littlefreelibraries #book #bookshelf #read #readmore #childrensbooks #yabooks #fictionbooks #reading

We visited Charter #100277 on our walk in Mattapoisett today. This little free library is outside the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, it was full of great children’s books. We added some from our back stock to completely fill it up! #littlefreelibrary #childrensbooks #readtogether #littlefreelibrarystewards #bookadventures #sharebooks

Another book I HAD to read this year. Author @elizabeth_lg sent a signed copy of her memoir, Stolen, to The Book House. This book was published July 20th and I’m so excited to be able to put this book out for others today.

“At fifteen, Elizabeth Gilpin was an honor student, a state-ranked swimmer and a rising soccer star, but behind closed doors her undiagnosed depression was wreaking havoc on her life. Growing angrier by the day, she began skipping practices and drinking to excess. At a loss, her parents turned to an educational consultant who suggested Elizabeth be enrolled in a behavioral modification program. That recommendation would change her life forever.

The nightmare began when she was abducted from her bed in the middle of the night by hired professionals and dropped off deep in the woods of Appalachia. Living with no real shelter was only the beginning of her ordeal: she was strip-searched, force-fed, her name was changed to a number and every moment was a test of physical survival.

After three brutal months, Elizabeth was transferred to a boarding school in Southern Virginia that in reality functioned more like a prison. Its curriculum revolved around a perverse form of group therapy where students were psychologically abused and humiliated. Finally, at seventeen, Elizabeth convinced them she was rehabilitated enough to “graduate” and was released.

In this eye-opening and unflinching book, Elizabeth recalls the horrors she endured, the friends she lost to suicide and addiction, and—years later—how she was finally able to pick up the pieces of her life and reclaim her identity.” #littlefreelibrary #lfl #stolen #book #bookstagram #read #author #memoir #littlefreelibraries #bookstagram #bookstagrammer

What am I missing? My baby starts preschool this Fall so I’ve starting buying all the preschool books I can find. Together we read at least 30 minutes every night so as you can imagine, we go through a TON of books. The more books, the BETTER. The Book House keeps me recycling the books, rather than hoarding them all! #books #preschool #baby #reusereducerecycle #littlefreelibrary #littlefreelibraries #readtogether #readmorebooks #readersgonnaread

Perfect Summer Read! Thank you author @karendukess for donating a copy of your book, The Last Book Party, to The Book House.
“In the 1980s, famed New Yorker writer Henry Grey and his poet wife Tillie throw Cape Cod’s most unmissable party each summer’s end, a legendary fête for the literary elite. Twenty-five-year-old aspiring writer Eve Rosen finagles her way into this Gatsbyesque orbit, which is completely different from her conventional, Jewish upbringing. But moving into one sphere means leaving another behind, and as Eve tries to negotiate the differences between her family values and this glittering world, she learns the risks of unbridled ambition and the importance of making her own choices about who she wants to be.”
