Typically when the city wants to tear down an old building, I’m on here complaining. This is not the case today. Marion is demolishing the old Marion Supply Company/CIPS building on the 7th and 8th of this month. It was built in the early 1900’s and was the Walmart of its day. Providing Marion residents with anything their heart desired from shoes to a new buggie or wagon (horse not included). In 1927, CIPS purchased the building and operated there in some capacity well into the 1970’s. In the late 70’s, Gary and Shirley Stanley renovated the property for office use, with a proposed recreation and exercise area...Google Campus style before Google. The Stanley’s printed materials for hospitals across the country here, a thrift store occupied some space and other random businesses resided at 202 E. Main. The Stanley’s donated the building to Marion Memorial Hospital in 1992, and in 1997 the building was considered as an option for an extension of the Williamson County Courthouse. Repairs for the property, NOT including the purchase price, were over $1 million. The building burnt in 1998, receiving severe internal damage and leaving it in its current state. Barely standing. It’s always sad to see a piece of local history go, but hopefully new history can be built here for the generations after us #littleegypt

This will always be my favorite picture of Little Egypt! The Gray Plaza Motel in my hometown of Harrisburg. It really was a beautiful town once upon a time, and I’m thankful I got to experience its last years of greatness #littleegypt

This has long been one of my favorite Little Egypt pictures. It dates back to 1861 and shows Cairo at the start of the Civil War. The quality of the photo is superb given its age! #littleegypt

“A motor hotel of distinction.” This is what the back of an old postcard featuring the Motel Marion once read. While in its later days, it was more of an eyesore, the motel was once a popular attraction with its swimming pool and ‘fancy’ restaurant. Built to serve those traveling to the recently completed VA hospital, the Motel started in 1941 with 16 units and expanded 16 more a few years later. Throughout the 50’s and 60’s, entertainment was provided in the restaurant from bands local and touring, with many families making it a special occasion to eat Sunday lunch there. Swipe through for postcards from the past along with menu specials from its heyday #littleegypt
