Goalkeeper Alisson Becker scored a stunning header in the fifth minute of stoppage-time as Liverpool snatched a 2-1 victory at the death against relegated West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
Alisson headed home from a corner to secure what could be a precious three points for Liverpool in their bid to qualify for the Champions League next season.

They stay in fifth place on 63 points from 36 games, one behind Chelsea in the fourth and final qualification position. Leicester City are in third on 66 points with the latter two to meet on Tuesday.
Striker Hal Robson-Kanu had scored in his first Premier League start in three-and-a-half years to give West Brom the lead, but Mohamed Salah equalised for the visitors to move level with Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane on 22 Premier League goals for the season.
Both sides missed opportunities to add to their score, but it was Alisson’s incredible late winner that clinched victory for the visitors.
Alisson, who lost his father in February, is the first Liverpool keeper to score in the club’s 129-year history as he rose highest to meet a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner.

South Indian food from FarmVeda’s packets and Naivedyam thalis in Delhi — both equally good

A friend sent us a food package that gave us enormous joy. The parcel consisted of various kinds of powders in sealed packets for making dosas and idlis, along with smaller packs of podi or ‘gun powder’. Sold by a Bengaluru group, FarmVeda’s mixes are superb. Organic and healthy — yet sublimely tasty — it has powders for millet or mixed grained dosas, semolina and ragi idlis and so on. For several days in a row, we had delicious breakfasts and teatime snacks. All good things come to an end, and these did, too. But the dosa mixes left this great yearning in me for good southern Indian vegetarian fare. I thought of ordering some food from Naivedyam, which has been selling southern Indian dishes largely from Karnataka. It has several outlets in Delhi-NCR, including in Hauz Khas, Gurugram and Noida.I placed my order: Udupi masala dosa (₹155), Naivedyam Maharaja Thali (₹345), Naivedyam Tiffin Thali (₹285) and something called chow chow bhath (₹155) because I liked the name. The food came at the dot of 1 pm — my lunch hour — in clean white cloth bags that somehow promised hygiene. The thalis — disposable trays with slots for the various dishes — were tightly secured with crisscrossing rubber bands, and the dosa and other items came in brown paper packets. The dosa was whisked away by a dosa lover at home, and my wife and I focused on the Maharaja thali, which was enough to feed two. It consisted of parathas, puris, lemon rice, a dry vegetable preparation, vegetable in gravy, sambar, rasam, papad, pickle and dessert.

I started with the puris and a capsicum-potato vegetable – which was mildly hot, but delicious. The other vegetable preparation was of diced beetroot and dal. I tried that with the paratha, which, unfortunately, was so rubbery that my teeth protested vehemently.I en...

In the second wave of the coronavirus infection, it is necessary to stay vigilant at all times. Since it is a transmissible infection, you are not only required to take care of yourself, but also your family members and neighbours by ensuring good hygiene and taking a few preparatory steps.
Dr Sandeep Gore, director, emergency medicine at Fortis Hospital, Mulund suggests some crucial things which can be done at home:
1. The first step of preparedness for every household is having an adequate quantity of masks available at home. These can be cloth masks or surgical masks. While venturing out, wear a double cloth mask or one cloth and one surgical mask to ensure maximum protection at public places.
2. Another important device that every household should have is a digital thermometer. One should check the temperature of all individuals at home daily, or check the temperature for those experiencing body ache, fever or fatigue. Any axillary temperature more than 99.3 is considered as fever. So, this patient needs immediate attention and further evaluation. In this pandemic, every fever is Covid, unless proven otherwise.

3. The third important device is a pulse oximeter. It is essentially needed in patients who are home-quarantined or taking treatment at home. If pulse oximeter reading goes below 93 per cent, then one must visit a Covid care center or a hospital. Those availing treatment at home should meticulously monitor body temperature and oxygen saturation using a pulse oximeter and inform their physician at intervals of 6 hours.
4. A six-minute walk test for patients who are getting treated at home and whose oxygen levels are normal at room air and during ...

Battled anxiety for 10-12 years of my career: Sachin Tendulkar

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday said he battled anxiety for a major part of his 24-year-old career before realising that his pre-game quirks were an important part of his preparation.
Talking about mental health, which has gained significance in the COVID times with players spending lot of time in bio-bubbles, Tendulkar said acceptability is the key.
“Over period of time I realised that besides preparing physically for a game, you have to prepare yourself mentally also. In my mind the match started long before I entered the ground. The anxiety levels were very high,” Tendulkar said in an interaction organised by Unacademy.
“I felt the anxiety for 10-12 years, had many sleepless nights before a game. Later on I started accepting that it was part of my preparation. The I made peace with times I was not able to sleep in the night. I would start doing something to keep my mind comfortable.”
That “something” included shadow batting, watching TV and playing video games in the wee hours of the day. Even making his morning cup of tea helped him prepare for the game.
“Making tea, ironing my clothes also helped me prepare for the game. I would pack my bag the day before the game, my brother taught me all of it and it became a habit. I followed the same drill even in the last match I played for India,” said the 48-year-old, who retired after playing his 200th Test match in 2013.
Tendulkar said a player is bound to go through ups and downs but it is important to accept when one is feeling low.
“When there is an injury, physios and doctors examine you and diagnose what is wrong with you. Same is the case with mental health. It is normal for anyone to go through ups and downs and when you hit those lows you need people around...

Amy Adams in The Woman in the Window

The Woman in the Window evokes two emotional states widely associated with the COVID-19 pandemic: real-estate envy and the condition of melancholy drift that some psychologists call languishing.
The resonance is purely accidental, since this adaptation of a 2018 novel by JA Finn, directed by Joe Wright (Atonement), was originally slated for theatrical release in 2019. To make a long story short, it fell through the cracks of the Fox-Disney merger, and landed at Netflix, where it feels curiously at home.
Speaking of home, Dr Anna Fox (Amy Adams) lives in a very nice one — a big brownstone on a quiet block in Harlem. Anna, whose husband (Anthony Mackie) and young daughter (Mariah Bozeman) are elsewhere, suffers from acute agoraphobia and chronic anxiety, which she treats with handfuls of pills and large glasses of red wine. Her shrink (Tracy Letts, also credited with the screenplay) makes house calls, and before long a lot of other people are interrupting Anna’s solitude. Her downstairs tenant (Wyatt Russell), a pair of detectives (Brian Tyree Henry and Jeanine Serralles), and members of a troubled family that has just moved in across the street.
Like so many of us, Anna responds to the tedium of her existence by watching old movies, including Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window and thrillers that feel a bit on-the-nose given her...

Every love story is different. Sometimes, people feel like carrying with them something that reminds them of their partner at all times, something so personal and intimate, it is as if their loved one is physically with them, even when they are not.
So while Brooklyn Beckham and his fiancée Nicola Peltz wear each other’s wisdom teeth as necklaces, American singer Machine Gun Kelly carries with him a vial of blood that belongs to his girlfriend Megan Fox.
In February this year, the musician had posted an image of the couple on his Instagram, writing in the caption: “i wear your blood around my neck 🔪🩸” .

The post also contained the image of the vial of blood which, during his recent appearance on TheEllenShow, Machine Gun Kelly revealed the actor shared with him early on in the relationship.
“She was actually going out of town to film a movie, and this was really new in our relationship. I didn’t have a passport either. She was going to Bulgaria, and so I was kind of freaking out, like, ‘Oh, you are going to leave, and I cannot even come see you’. Some people give a handkerchief to their partner or whatever, she gave me her DNA,” he said, and then proceeded to take the vial out from his pocket to show it to host Ellen DeGeneres, who said it was “beautiful”.
The musician also shared that he did ultimately get a passport made, and that it was US senator Bernie Sanders and his team who helped him.

Thomas Tuchel laments Chelsea’s bad luck after FA Cup final loss

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said his side had simply not had fortune on their side as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Leicester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
“We are disappointed and not angry with our performance from the boys, I think the performance is enough to win it,” said the German, who has transformed Chelsea’s season since taking over from Frank Lampard in January.
“I think today we were unlucky and we’ve never hidden that we need to have that to win at this level. You need momentum, decision making, little details, the referee,” the German said.
Chelsea had a late potential equaliser ruled out for offside and some of their players also felt that Leicester’s Ayoze Perez had handled before Youri Tieleman’s stunning 63rd-minute winning goal.”I didn’t see it.
My assistant saw it on the screen on the bench and the players said it straight away that is was a handball,” said Tuchel. The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris St Germain coach felt his side had done well to limit Leicester’s effectiveness on the break.
“I think we defended well, counter-pressed well, didn’t allow counter-attacks by one of the best counter-attacking sides in Europe,” he said.
But he was less pleased with the way his team failed to make the most of their dominance of possession.”Our decision making in the first half was too hectic, we tried to force the solution.
We created two against two and three against three situations that were more promising than we made of it,” he said.”We conceded a goal from nothing.
It’s a fantastic goal and a lucky goal. We have a chance from Mason (Mount), an offside goal that was very close. We were unlucky today,” he concluded.

What is it about cookery shows that draws us to them? We don’t get to eat the food, and often we are so mesmerised by the razzmatazz that we don’t actually follow the process of cooking. But food programmes — hosted by trained chefs, villagers, writers, homemakers, and so on — have us all hooked. Why? I think I’ve found the answer — it’s the sight of a fire burning bright that draws us.Where there’s food, there’s fire, at least in some form. Fire figures prominently in a book I have been reading — Michael Pollan’s Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation. The cover is rather attractive — it shows a nicely browned sausage. I could imagine it sizzling over a crackling fire. And I could even get the aroma of a somewhat burnt sausage.(Stay up to date on new book releases, reviews, and more with The Hindu On Books newsletter. But watching an everyday pan of eggs get scrambled was nearly as riveting a spectacle, as a slimy yellow goop suddenly leapt into the form of savoury gold nuggets.”What he doesn’t add — but I happily imagine — are the merry flames of fire leaping up as his mother holds the pan away from the stove to ensure that the eggs don’t coagulate in the heat.Bo-bo’s achievementThe book, lent to me by a friend, is an eminently readable work on all that goes into food. The section on fire is particularly illuminating. Human beings, Pollan writes, were eating raw food till an accident happened in a Chinese hom...

Oils form an essential part of the everyday diet as they are widely used to prepare different kinds of dishes, from salads to main courses and even snacks. Thus, opting for the right kind of oil should be a conscious decision because it largely influences your cardiovascular health.
“With the growing inclination towards a healthy lifestyle, people are opting for cold-pressed oils and ditching regular/refined oils to maintain optimal functioning of their heart. It is hard to determine the difference between the two kinds of oil while cooking or tasting food, but both of them have different nutritional content, physiological and chemical properties,” Arthi Raguram, Founder, Deyga Organics tells indianexpress.com.

Let us understand the basic difference between cold-pressed oils and regular oils on the basis of the manufacturing process, nutritional value, shelf-life, and cooking method.
Manufacturing process
The method of extracting oil makes all the difference to its quality and flavour. The extraction process of cold-pressed oils involves crushing oil-bearing nuts or seeds under pressure using low heating methods. Generally, the seeds are placed in a huge cylinder where they are continuously rotated and crushed until all the oil is collected. Since the process does not involve an excess amount of heat or chemical solvents, cold-pressed oils retain their original flavor, taste, aroma, and nutritional value. “Not only the oil is highly beneficial for your cardiovascular health, but also your skin when topically applied. On the contrary, regular refined oils are extracted by using high temperatures and treated with chemical solvents that degrade their flavor, taste, and nut...
