One of the main reasons we #waste food is because we don’t use it in time. So before you tackle the big shop, check your cupboards and fridge for what needs to be used. Remember: setting your fridge temp below 40°F can extend the life of your food!

Most pet food bags are packaged in bags made of paper but lined with plastic, which cannot be easily separated when it gets to the materials recovery facility. Please dispose of this item in your trash and keep it out of your curbside recycling cart.

Cardboard boxes, copy paper, and notebook paper can be recycled 5 to 7 times before being made into toilet paper, tissue, or paper towels. Flatten your cardboard to save room in your recycling cart.

Remember to keep recyclables clean (non-greasy), dry, and loose!

Don’t throw your clothes away or put them in the recycling bin, drop them off at a donation center or a thrift store! This will reduce your waste and allow your clothes to be reused. Clothes thrown in landfills can take over 200 years to decompose.

What are some of your favorite places to donate to in Denton?

Styrofoam is labeled as a #6 plastic (Polystyrene) but it is NOT accepted in the City of Denton's recycling program.

The closest Styrofoam recycling drop-off center is located at Frisco's Environmental Collection Center: 6616 Walnut Street in Frisco, TX. The best solution is to reduce our use of this product.

Did you know that the New York City's recycling facility receives roughly 1,200 bowling balls per year? This picture was taken last week of a recycling cart in Denton. Bowling balls are not accepted in your curbside recycling cart.

If you want your items to get reused, please donate them to a local donation center or drop-off.
