Posted @withregram • @uselessplastic Marine debris can easily lead to the death ☠ of #wildlife.⁣
⁣
This turtle was found dead at Zappalo Bay in #cyprus, entangled in a fishing net that got entangled in rocks.⁣
⁣
Entanglement is a major issue caused by ocean #plastic #pollution. Plastic objects, such as bags, types, fishing lines, fishing nets, can entrap animals, limiting their ability to move, eat, and breathe; which can result in severe injuries, illness, suffocation, and eventually death ☠😔.⁣
⁣
What we can all do:⁣
✅ Join a cleanup event that removes plastic from the water and beaches;⁣
✅ Eat less fish and only sustainably caught fish; ⁣
✅ Report any entanglements you see immediately (also during your vaccations). Most countries have a hotline for these events.⁣

Posted @withregram • @night_shayde_1313 Through the years I've had MANY aquariums w many different species of fish. Some were captive bred while others weren't, which I'd learn more about those later in life, unfortunately. And the more I learned about fish behavior and life cycles, I began to see how stress can cause diseases or invite parasites, how much of a huge environment most come from and how so many people just look at fish (and other aquarium inhabitants) as "expendable pets"! That never sat well w me the older and wiser I became. Fast forward to now and I literally have no desire to keep fish ever again. And I'll give a perfect example why...
If you look up where any fish comes from, can you honestly say that any tank you can get at a store will even come close to the size they would have in the wild? Is a bowl enough? A 10 gallon? A 55 gallon? A 100 gallon? Nature is equipped to provide the necessary resources animals need to survive and live a healthy, rich life. We cannot replicate that no matter how hard we try. The amount of environment that even a tiny fish would live in the wild, NO person would want, or even HAVE, the money or room to provide it! I've been around so many stores that don't care to educate people on this because it would kill the industry. Selling fish is NOT a profitable part of the pet industry. I've heard that said to me SO many times from a mom and pop place I've worked at, to a big chain like a petsmart. So why does it keep going? They make the money from everything else you'll be buying to keep those fish. Any there's plenty of stuff out there too. Most of you'd never use, or even consider, in the wild. It's all about money. It always is, really.
